Recent studies have revealed the interchangeable and potentiating roles of magnesium and taurine in human physiology. Data show that magnesium plays an important role in the metabolic regulation of taurine, and taurine can substitute for magnesium in the presence of overt and subclinical magnesium deficiency states.
Magnesium deficits may be either latent (i.e., without disturbances in blood Mg, Ca and intracellular K) or patent, with a rich symptomatology (i.e., with hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia and decreased intracellular potassium).
